Southern Oaks Wedding Photographer | Karina & Ryan

Ryan and I had so much fun working with Beebe and Kacie. Beebe – you clearly work magic because you took Ryan, my lovely human who about 95% of the time looks like he is in pain while taking photos, into a photo taking machine. He loved telling everyone how he was now a professional and all of his little tricks for posing that he picked up from you after our wedding photo session. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything. If we ever hear of someone else getting married in NOLA, we will 100% be sending them your way.

How did you meet?
I was Ryan’s dog trainer for our first dog, Izzy. He claims he kept me around so Izzy would listen to someone (ha!).
Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
The ceremony and reception was held at Southern Oaks. We became engaged September 2020. After needing to quarantine in our homes for how ever many months, I was ready to leave Kansas City. My family and I took a trip to Sea Island, GA when I was in high school and I adored the old oak trees with the spanish moss hanging from them. When it came time to find our wedding venue, I started looking in Savannah, GA and surrounding states for a venue with those trees. Ryan suggested looking in New Orleans and turns out, NOLA stuck. 🙂
Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
The day really did go by quickly. The only “slow” part was once hair and make-up was finished up and we had a little down time before our fabulous photographer appeared.
Did you do a first look? If so how did you feel about it? If not, do you wish you had?
We did a first look. I was really glad we did it because we didn’t have to try to keep everyone separate until the ceremony. With our ceremony being at 7:30pm, we didn’t want to have to hide from each other that long. I also really liked doing the first look to help squash any nerves. It was good to see Ryan and be able to party on the bus on the way over to the venue and get a lot of family photos out of the way.
What was your first dance song? Why this song?
Our first dance was “Tequila Little Time” by John Pardi. Ryan has always been a big Tequila connoisseur and he was very excited to pick out “the Tequila song” for our first dance.
We work really hard to help come up with a timeline and plan for the portrait list to make sure you are getting the most out of your day. How useful was this for you?
The timeline was amazing. Ryan loves a good timeline (and scheduling in general) so the timeline was great for knowing when we needed to get everyone together, when we needed to be ready, leaving for the venue, etc. We totally appreciate all of the flexibility as well when we had extended family jumping in for photos.

Never stop giving timelines. They save lives. 🙂
