The Capital on Baronne Wedding Photographer

The Capital on Baronne is located in the heart of the New Orleans CBD just blocks from Canal Street and many hotels and churches, like the Roosevelt and Immaculate Conception. Megan and Jeffrey celebrated their wedding at this new gorgeous new venue. We loved seeing their ideas for this grand space come to life.

How did you meet?
Jeffrey and I met at Republic NOLA nightclub after an Alicia Keys concert. We were inseparable after that moment! We really found love in the club, LOL!

What is your favorite thing about each other? Share a personal story.
I love that Jeffrey is such an outgoing and caring guy. He makes everyone's world brighter and happier and I get to enjoy it for the rest of my life! He is always the life of the party. Jeff can turn anything into a great time. He has the most genuine heart I've ever known. He would give anything for anyone. He's the best person that I know.

How did the proposal go? Who proposed to who, were you surprised?
I had just finished up nursing school, and we were taking a family cruise for my graduation. It was the night of the captain's dinner and we were all dressed fancy! The waiter, as well as my entire family, was in on the surprise. For those who have been on cruises, you know that the ship is all for fun. The waiter said he wanted to play a game and needed a volunteer to be blindfolded. He blindfolded me and when I opened my eyes, my grandmother was holding a sign that Jeff had his sister in law, Kim, make for us. It read "will you save my life and be my wife?" It. was. MAGICAL. I was on cloud 9. He then got down on one knee and popped the question. I was totally surprised. We knew that we wanted to spend forever together, but jeff and I never went to look at rings so I wasn't sure when it would ever happen. He did an amazing job, my guy has great taste (knows me well, lol)!

Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
Our ceremony was held at Felicity Church. Jeff and I decided to share our vows, and most important part of our wedding, there because neither of us are Catholic, but are devoted to our Faith. Most of the churches that we knew about in the city were only Catholic churches. We stumbled across Felicity, and the beauty of the place was overwhelming. It never took a second thought. It will hold a special place in our hearts forever.

Where was your Reception held and why did you pick this site?
Our reception site was the newly renovated Capital NOLA ballroom on 210 Baronne. I have had lots of memories in that building since I was a child. It was a bank that has since been turned into the most beautiful venue (in the city! lol). It fit our theme to a T. Our theme was Gatsby. The columns in the building and the architecture is exquisite. Truly breathtaking in every sense.

What unique or special things did you do at the reception?
At our reception, Jeff and I wanted to make it memorable for our guests. We hired Stephanie Torregrossa to perform our life painting. Every single guest was in awe of her work! Such a hit. We also had large foam glow sticks that enhanced the party. We ended the night with a memorable second line down Canal Street accompanied by Kin Folk Brass Band.

Pick one moment in the day that was your favorite thing?
My favorite moment leading up to the start of the ceremony was the first look to my bridesmaids and family. Their faces were priceless, and seeing how happy they were for me was an instant reminder of how special they all are to me! My other favorite parts of the night were when the doors opened up and there I saw my almost husband, sobbing at the sight of me. He was so handsome, especially in that moment! Then, of course the party!

Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
SO QUICKLY. We knew it would go by fast, so we even booked four hours as opposed to the traditional three hour reception. It was not enough, but it was the most magical night! I am not sure if there would ever be enough time for any bride!

What was the inspiration behind picking the color palette and decor that you picked?
I have always dreamed of a winter wedding. The color scheme that I chose was burgundy, navy, gold, hints of blush, and lots of white. The gold was chosen for the Gatsby theme, but everything else I just loved! My fave color combo.

From Megan - When you first saw Jeff, what were you thinking/feeling?
Before the doors opened I had a pit in my stomach. I was so excited, yet nervous, for those doors to open, but as soon as they did, ever inch of fear and every nerve evaporated at the sight of my handsome groom!

From Jeff - When you first saw Megan, what was going through your mind?
That she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life, and I had something in my eye, lol.

Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
Our baker was The Royal Cakery. Our cake had a different flavor cake and filling for each tier, and the groom's cake was a totally different style from the main cake. It was so delicious!

Did you do a first look? If so how did you feel about it? If not, do you wish you had?
We chose not to do a first look. We debated doing one, but decided that we wanted the first time we saw each other to be at the altar. We loved our decision. Jeff cried (or as he says, had something in his eyes lol) and made it even more special. I married an amazing man.

Did you have a coordinator or did you plan everything yourself? If you didn't have a coordinator any advice for brides planning their own wedding?
We did have a planner! We hired Kelly Sherlock. Her assistant, Monica, was with us for the reception, and she was also amazing! They really pulled the wedding together and were able to make my vision come to life!! I hired Kelly after I had been doing some things on my own, but being a nurse that was working nights, there was no way that I could tackle this alone. My advice would be to ENJOY EVERY SECOND! I never truly believed it would go by as fast as people say, but it went by so very quickly. Jeff and I had a long engagement (a year and a half) and I feel like we got engaged yesterday, but now we have been married for almost two months!

What was your first dance song? Why this song?
We had two first dance songs: Speechless by Dan + Shay & Stand By Me by Prince Royce. Jeff is Honduran, and loves to dance to Spanish music. Jeff started teaching me bachata and salsa pretty early on in our relationship. Although I am nowhere near as good at it as he is, I absolutely love to dance to it. The Prince Royce song is a bachata song, and it holds a special place in our hearts because when Jeff was teaching me to dance to that song, he whispered "I love you" for the first time. We chose "Speechless" because the both of us heard it one day and loved it, especially thinking of our lives together, it made perfect sense.

Band or DJ? Did they rock it?
We actually had both. After 8 Band and DJ Aaron Lane shared the spotlight for our wedding. We are more of a DJ-style crowd, but we also loved After 8!!

We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides.
Dear Future Brides,

Congratulations! This will be the best time of your lives! Just a piece of advice: try not to sweat the small stuff. That is much easier said than done, I know! But, things WILL go wrong, and THAT'S OK. Jeff and I had a few things go wrong... prime example, we didn't realize until halfway through our second line that we were not holding our second line umbrellas that we had made! Most of the mistakes that happen won't be big enough for you to remember. Enjoy your day. It will go by so quickly! Dance as much as you can and have the best time with your guests. Wishing I could relive this day over and over!
