How did you meet?
Joey and I met through friends at the Bulldog in Baton Rouge

Include a little bit about yourselves.
Joey and I are both originally from New Orleans but we met after college in Baton Rouge. I just finished my first year of medical school at LSU and Joey is an accountant in New Orleans.

How did the proposal go?
The proposal was perfect- Joey went all out! He planned a fake engagement party for a recently engaged couple from work as a coverup story to get me to the location. He made an invitation to this “party” and even mailed it to himself so I could open it- I completely fell for it!
We arrived at the lakefront in Mandeville for the “party” and he suggested we take a walk by the lake to sit in one of the beautiful gazebos since we were early. Once we got to the gazebo, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and of course, I said yes!

Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
Our ceremony was held at Holy Name of Jesus church on St. Charles. I have known I wanted to get married in this church since I was a little girl. My maid of honor and I both attended school at Holy Name of Jesus from pre-k until 7th grade and we went to church in that beautiful church every Wednesday. I t was so special to be married in the church where I grew up and had so many great memories!

Where was your Reception held and why did you pick this site?
Our reception was at the Audubon Tea Room. It was a perfect venue for us with the beautiful oak trees, great food, and super close proximity to the ceremony location.

What unique or special things did you do at the reception?
A New Orleans wedding always has so many great options for food but we wanted to step it up a notch at our reception. Joey loves oysters so we actually had a raw oyster shucking station at the reception- it was a huge hit!
And of course, we had a second line exit from the reception too!

Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
Gambino’s was the baker for the wedding cake and it was delicious! We had a different flavor filling in each tier and it’s hard to pick a favorite between the butter cream, strawberry, or praline!

The groom’s cake was actually made by Joey’s mother. It was a special cake that his Maw Maw used to make when he was young and this was the first time anyone in his family had replicated it since her passing. It was so special to Joey to have this cake at our wedding and his mom did such a great job!

Did you do a first look? If so how did you feel about it?
We did do a first look and I think it was perfect for us! It was much more intimate being just us and the photographers for the first time seeing eachother instead of having each other church there for that moment. I think every couple is different and you should consider what’s best for you before deciding on a first look or not!

Band or DJ? Did they rock it?
We had the most amazing band we could’ve ever asked for- Souled Out absolutely rocked it! I have never seen so many people dancing at a wedding before, they were a blast!

We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides.
The best advice I was given was simply to enjoy the day! With all the planning that goes into making your wedding happen, its easy to get caught up in all the details. Just try to relax and enjoy this wonderful day you’ve waited so long for!
