New Orleans Marriott Hotel Wedding | Lorelei & John

Married: December 15, 2018
Bridal Prep: New Orleans Marriott Hotel
Ceremony: New Orleans Marriott Hotel
Reception: New Orleans Marriott Hotel

How did the proposal go?
He proposed on Christmas Eve in front of the Hogwarts castle in Orlando after the lights show. She was hoping it was coming, but shocked when it happened. He cleverly concealed the ring to ensure the surprise.

Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
The wedding ceremony and reception were held at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel. New Orleans is a short drive from home (Mobile), but a beautiful city that is easier to reach for people flying in and more attractive for a destination, at the same cost to us. The hotel is centrally located and large enough to accommodate everyone. The view from the 41st floor event space is unbelievable.

What was your favorite part of the day?
So many great memories, it is hard to choose. The first look was intimate. Placing the rings on each other’s hands is powerful. The photo booth was good fun. The last dance where everyone joined in was special.

Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
Definitely! The ceremony was about 15 minutes, but the reception was about 4 hours. Between visiting with everyone, the events (first dance, cake cutting, etc.), the photos, dancing, etc. the night just flew by. Neither of us even had any wedding cake.

What was the inspiration behind picking the color palette and decor that you picked?
His last name is Cherry, so Red was an obvious choice. Then we picked metallics to pair with it to create an elegant look befitting a cocktail reception. She had the wonderful idea of using large glasses with ornaments and lights for centerpieces.

From the groom – When you first saw the bride, what were you thinking/feeling?
We did a first look and she came up behind me in the street. I was so anxious to see her, but I wasn’t prepared for how beautiful she looked. I’ve never seen her so stunning. Tears of joy were shed.

Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
The hotel made our cake. They have a French pastry chef. The top and bottom tiers were almond cake with praline filling, while the middle (groom’s cake) was carrot with cream cheese filling. The whole thing was covered in Italian buttercream. The tasting was delicious, and our guests seemed to enjoy it.

Did you have a coordinator or did you plan everything yourself? If you didn’t have a coordinator any advice for brides planning their own wedding?
No wedding planner, but the hotel comes with an event coordinator for their pieces. Research, budget, and book early. Check with your vendors as you get closer and coordinate times and locations between the vendors and your location manager.

What was your first dance song? Why this song?
Yellow by Coldplay – a romantic song that we enjoy dancing to.

Band or DJ? Did they rock it?
DJ – he was great. We picked a lot of the songs, set some boundaries, and he filled in the rest and allowed requests. People were dancing all night. Several people said they couldn’t stop dancing because the next song was always a good one.

Anything else you want to say?
The ceremony is for you as a couple. Make it intimate and special. The reception is for all your loved ones. Make it fun and memorable.
